Melbourne United's search for a new head coach has hit a roadblock as their top candidate, Dave Joerger, is reportedly set to join Paris Basketball. According to ESPN's Olgun Uluc, Joerger was at the top of United's list, but has decided to take up the vacant Paris Basketball position. United had sent representatives to speak with Joerger at the 2026 adidas Eurocamp, but it appears they will not be able to secure his services. Uluc stated that Joerger was a top candidate for the Boomers' job before Adam Caporn was appointed, and has been courted by Paris Basketball for a good amount of time. He is expected to be a good fit for the Paris Basketball team, which has a proven track record of developing players for the NBA. With Joerger out of the picture, Melbourne United will now have to shift their focus to another candidate. One name being considered is Francesco Tabellini, the former head coach of Paris Basketball. Tabellini has a high-quality coaching resume and has a similar playing style to Josh King, but it remains to be seen if he will be a good fit for United's older team. United's search for a new head coach is becoming increasingly difficult, with many of the top candidates already signed and contracted. They will need to act quickly to find a suitable replacement for Dean Vickerman, who left the team after three NBL championships.
