Melbourne United has taken a bold move to secure Dave Joerger as their new head coach, sending their star player Chris Goulding to Italy for a secret meeting. Joerger, currently an assistant at the Milwaukee Bucks, is part of the club's coach search process and is in the tranquil city of Treviso to coach at the annual Adidas Eurocamp. United has been searching for a new head coach since early May, when they parted ways with two-time championship mentor Dean Vickerman. CODE Sports understands ex-United assistant Jacob Chance and former LA Laker Coby Karl, son of NBA coaching great George Karl, were among those Melbourne has canvassed for the job. But it appears Joerger, 52, has emerged as the key target to lead the club's new era under new majority owner Travis Knipe. Joerger is undoubtedly one of the most-credentialed American coaches to have been linked to Australian basketball in recent years. He spent three seasons as head coach of the Grizzlies as the architect of the club's famous 'grit and grind' era. He then spent three more with the Kings, having built a reputation as one of basketball's best developmental and defensive minds. For the full story on CODE Sports Basketball, click here.
